Okay, sometimes it’s about you!

I’m sure you also have moments when you think ‘What’s the point?’ Moments when you don’t see the significance of doing something ‘nice’, for example, especially for someone who has annoyed you, or maybe for someone who you don’t think will appreciate it or even notice that you’re doing it.

We’re often tempted to throw in the towel in these moments however, what we need to realise is that, most often, these moments exist more for our own benefit than for the benefit of others.
Sometimes I’ll pray for someone to be healed, and they aren’t. Sometimes I’ll feel to speak an encouraging word, and the person doesn’t ‘get it’. Sometimes I’ll offer help, and it gets refused.
We can allow these things to make us despondent, or we can allow these things to change who we are, into the ever growing likeness of Christ.

When people were spitting on Jesus, beating Him and calling Him names, He didn’t give up. Heck, I would never even have made it that far … After the very first word or act of rejection I’d have called my dad and said “Hey, so these people aren’t really into it, I think I’ll rather just come home … It would have been amazing but I don’t think it’s their vibe?”
But not our Jesus. No-sir-ree! He kept at it… regardless of what people thought, what they said, or how they acted. He never allowed THEIR behaviour to determine HIS behaviour. He said “The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing” (john 5:19-20) So secure and confident was He in His Father’s affection.

See, when you love people who might reject you …
When you offer help that goes unaccepted …
When you encourage those who don’t listen …
When you pray for those who seem to be unchanged …
When you are kind to those who don’t even notice …
It’s not about them at all. It’s about you. It’s about God working in YOU, training your soul, transforming your mind, teaching you to never give up, never grow weary … and causing you to be mature, and become more and more like our Master Jesus, focusing more on the process and leaving the results up to God. Let God determine your behaviour, no one else!

Gal 6:9-10 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.

And I will keep writing these blogs, even if no one reads them 😛

Love, Jo x
